H1N1 a concern ahead of Greece’s visit to Ukraine

Fri Nov 5

The Greek sporting world has already seen the swine flu, or H1N1 virus, take a toll on its sporting clubs. But as the Greek National Team prepares for its two-leg play-off with Ukraine later this month, concern has reached a new level as fatalities in Ukraine reach sixty-four.

The Ukrainian Football Federation is approaching the matter very seriously, and have already worked with UEFA to implement a mandatory use of masks when Dynamo Kiev entertain Italian giants Inter Milan on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.

A similar approach is expected when Greece visits the city of Donetsk on 18 November for the second leg of the tie to decide which country will feature at this summer's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Greece's technical director, Takis Fyssas, has arrived in Ukraine to assure the arrival of the Greek National Team does not jeopardize the team's health; meeting with officials from the Ukrainian delegation, with FIFA slated to receive contact regarding the conditions of the match.
